MQ One: Crow Hills

Today, even though it was a rainy day, I decided to head over to Redemption Rock and hike the Midstate Trail to the Crow Hill Ledges, thus kicking off this year's Mountain Quest.

There was only one other car in the lot, and no one on the trail. I began the hike right at 3:00 pm, and it was a relatively easy traverse. I am out of hiking shape, but there was very little difficulty, and I didn't have to stop very often. All I had with me was my cell phone and a 20 oz. bottle of water. No backpack this time. It was grey with a few glimpses of sunlight, with a light mist of rain the entire soggy journey, and a brief downpour that was diffused by the canopy. Everything was still green, despite autumn kicking off this week. There was so much fog that I couldn't see Mount Wachusett from the vista ledge. Spooky...

It was on hour to the ledges, and an hour back, with just a few stops for photos and rest. The stream bed was dry. I am very glad I went, though I know my leg muscles will remind me of the trip in a day or two!
